Use an actual stage, not a hoped-for date
GOV.UK distinguishes kit-built vehicles from kit-converted vehicles and sets out different evidence. Quotezone describes its kit-car service as a route to providers for self-build kit/component cars. Its page does not state that every unfinished build can be protected through the same arrangement.
Record whether the vehicle is assembled, whether required approval/registration remains open and whether current activity is only workshop storage. A planned first drive is a future intention. Keep a proposed completion date separate from confirmed paperwork and insurance start times.
Ask stage-specific questions
For parts and an incomplete build, ask about component ownership, storage premises, theft/fire, tools and transport as separate subjects. For a completed vehicle awaiting approval, ask how testing, movement and storage are handled. For an on-road vehicle, prepare drivers, actual use, modification records and times. These are questions, not statements that any product includes those risks.
Keep changes between stages visible. An arrangement for storage cannot be treated as permission to drive, and registration does not establish insurer acceptance. Contact the provider when the stage changes and ask for any conditions and effective time.
What the preparation tool does
The kit-car path adds donor/build and approval records to the shared preparation list. If the stage is building, stored or awaiting approval, it outputs a specialist-discussion message and suppresses the ordinary kit-car referral. It does not decide what approval is required.
For a completed road-use scenario with facts organised, the disclosed kit-car link opens Quotezone's own route. Quotezone describes passing information to its provider panel for contact about a potential quote. Our checklist sends no answers and does not promise an instant policy or call.
Your working list
- Identify actual build/use stage
- Separate parts/storage and future road-use questions
- Check kit-built versus kit-converted records
- Confirm appropriate approval and registration process
- Contact the provider before a stage or use changes
What remains outside this guide
No build-stage, transit, approval-test, fire/theft or driving cover is implied by the kit-car link.
This referral is for discussing a kit car. If your vehicle is still being built, stored or awaiting approval, confirm a stage-specific route with a provider first.
